Definitions of Different Odds Formats
Decimals
Example: £100 x 2.2 = £220
The decimal format is commonly used in many countries and is the simplest odds format. To calculate your potential return, you multiply your wager by the decimal odds. For example, with decimal odds of 2, a £100 bet will result in a return of £200. Your profit in this case would be £100.
Fractional
Example: £100 wager on 3/1 = £400
In the fractional format, the first number on the left represents the winnings, and the second number represents the wager required to obtain those winnings. For instance, with odds of 3/1, you would receive £3 for every £1 wagered. The £3 winnings do not include the initial wager, so the total payout would be £4.
American (aka Moneyline)
Example: £100 wager on +150 = £250
In American odds, positive values represent the amount you will win if you place a £100 bet. For example, with odds of +150 and a £100 wager, you would receive £150 as winnings. The total payout would be £250 (£150 winnings + £100 initial wager). Negative American odds indicate how much money you need to wager to win £100. For instance, -300 means you must wager £300 to win £100. This is equivalent to decimal odds of 1.33.
